Mauricio Pochettino sends message to Manchester United player Marcus Rashford

Mauricio Pochettino has said he "always liked" Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United forward moved onto three World Cup goals in Qatar.

Though he struggled last season, Rashford has returned to form at Manchester United this term, scoring crucial goals to help maintain United's bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Rashford's focus is currently on the World Cup as England aim to go one further than their runners-up finish at the European Championship in 2021.

Pochettino was under consideration for the United job alongside Erik ten Hag and judging by his comments to Sky Sports he would have enjoyed working with Rashford.

The Argentine said: “I’ve always liked him, I knew of his process because I was in England, but I think he’s a great player. He just needs the confidence and for himself to believe, to put him at the top level. The quality is there for him.”

Rashford's current United contract is due to expire at the end of the season but the club has the option to extend the 25-year-old's deal by a further year to 2024.
