Former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen received an overwhelming wave of support yesterday, including from former boss Mauricio Pochettino.
The Dane was at the centre of a hugely concerning incident as his country began their Euro 2020 campaign at the Parken Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly before half-time, the 29-year-old collapsed close to the touchline and was then given emergency medical treatment.
This appeared to include CPR before Eriksen was removed from the pitch on a stretcher.
The game was briefly suspended before it resumed later on, with the news that the midfielder was “stable” and “awake” in hospital whilst undergoing a number of tests.
Support continued to flood through from the footballing world, with the distressing incident hugely impacting all those who watched.
One of those to send his support to Eriksen was former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Now in charge of French giants Paris Saint Germain, the Argentine took to Instagram and posted a picture of the two during their respective Spurs days and captioned it: “Thinking only positive thoughts for you Christian. Get well soon.”
He joined a huge amount of Eriksen’s former teammates in posting their own support including the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld.
Brought to north London in 2013, the Dane arguably played his best football following Pochettino’s arrival at the club from Southampton in 2014.
In all, Eriksen played 255 matches under the Argentine during his time at Spurs, scoring 58 goals before he was sacked mid-way through the 2019/20 campaign.
The midfielder himself left shortly after as he joined Inter Milan in the 2020 January transfer window.
He has gone on to win Serie A with the Italian giants.
