Mauricio Pochettino sends emotional message to Tottenham fans after landing PSG job

Mauricio Pochettino has sent an emotional message to Tottenham Hotspur fans after his return to management was confirmed.

Pochettino has been officially unveiled as the new head coach of French club Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine replaces Thomas Tuchel at the helm in his first job since parting company with Spurs 14 months ago.

The 48-year-old, who also managed Southampton in the Premier League, has signed a contract with PSG that runs until June 2022.

Pochettino took to social media to reflect on his time in England.

Tottenham trio’s Covid-19 breach was ‘a negative surprise’ – Jose Mourinho

"Thank you to everyone who made our 7 years in England such an incredible experience," he posted on Instagram.

"My family, staff and me have been so happy here, it has really felt like home and we appreciate all the support and warmth you have shown us.

"We have made many friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

"To manage in the Premier League was a dream come true and I hope you will remember me for more now than just Sapporo in 2002!

"It is time for a new adventure and the opportunity to realise another personal ambition. Big hug, Mauricio x @premierleague @spursofficial @southamptonfc"

Pochettino's reference to Sapporo relates to that fact that he conceded the penalty that gave England a 1-0 win over Argentina at the 2002 World Cup in Japan.

He was adjudged to have fouled Michael Owen in the area and David Beckham converted from the spot.

Pochettino spent two season as a PSG player during his playing days, from 2001 to 2003.

Speaking about his appointment, he said: "I am extremely happy and honoured to become the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain.

"I thank the leaders of the club for the confidence they place in me. As you know, this club has always kept a special place in my heart.

"I have wonderful memories of it, especially of the unique atmosphere of the Parc des Princes.

"I come back to the club today with a lot of ambition and humility, while also being very eager to work with some of the most talented players in the world.

"This team has fantastic potential and I will do everything with my staff to optimise the results of Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions.

"We will also do our utmost to give our team that combative and offensive playing identity that Parisian supporters have always loved."
