Mauricio Pochettino says exactly what every Spurs fan is thinking about VAR

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that he was left 'confused' that Son Heung-min's red card wasn't overturned by VAR in Spurs' game against Everton

The South Korean saw red after a challenge on Everton midfielder Andre Gomes where the Portuguese suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle. Son was visibly distressed following the incident as he was consoled by teammates.

The referee was set to show the Tottenham man a yellow card, before he changed his mind after the severity of the injury became clear, deciding to instead brandish a red.

Spurs have since appealed successfully against the sending off, meaning that Son will now not have to serve a suspension and will be able to feature in the club's next Premier League match against Sheffield United.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Spurs' Champions League encounter vs Red Star Belgrade, Pochettino has said that the right decision has now been reached.

“I was confident [the red card] would be overturned," he said.

"We were a bit confused after the game. It’s completely fair that he’s now not suspended. The only problem is that the VAR can check these things and it was clearly and obviously not a red card.”

VAR has been a massive talking point over the opening 11 games of the Premier League season, with the incident just one of the many incidents that has caused debate so far.
