Mauricio Pochettino's comments on taking Barcelona job amid Nou Camp speculation

Mauricio Pochettino has already been linked with a host of new jobs - despite only leaving Tottenham on Tuesday night.

The Argentine was sacked by Spurs after a disappointing start to the season with the north Londoners languishing in 14th in the Premier League table.

They are already 11 points adrift of the top four having won just three of their opening 12 fixtures and Daniel Levy has turned to Jose Mourinho to try and turn around their fortunes.

Pochettino has been strongly linked with Bayern Munich, currently under the caretaker charge of Hansi Flick, after Niko Kovac's sacking following their 5-1 humbling at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt.

A fanciful move to Arsenal has also been touted, but it is Barcelona who are 'making the biggest move' for his services, according to media reports on Thursday.

Pochettino was asked about potentially managing Barca in the future after being spotted in a bar with Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu in March 2017.

But the former Espanyol player and boss insisted his connection with Barcelona's local rivals meant he could never sit in the Nou Camp dugout.

"I am an Espanyol supporter," he explained. "I don’t think I need to speak too much.

"It’s like if one day [the Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy sacked me – in a few years it would be impossible for me to manage Arsenal.

"In football I know it is so difficult to keep your values and to be loyal – with your heart and emotion. But for me before being a manager, before being a player, being loyal is more important. I am an Espanyol fan.

"I love Espanyol. It’s like Tottenham for me now. It will be impossible, one day, to move to Arsenal. It will be impossible.”
