Mauricio Pochettino's comments about Chelsea transfer target should excite Blues supporters

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has described reported Chelsea target Lautaro Martinez as "one of the best strikers in the world."

The Inter Milan forward's hugely impressive form this season has coincided with the arrival of ex-Blues boss Antonio Conte last summer.

Martinez has netted 19 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions for Inter, with his partnership with Romelu Lukaku a major factor in the club's success.

The 22-year-old's displays in Italy have reportedly attracted the attention of clubs around Europe, with Chelsea and Barcelona both linked with a move.

The Blues failed to strengthen their attack in the January transfer window, despite being linked with a host of names including Moussa Dembele, Dries Mertens and Edinson Cavani.

But Frank Lampard is reportedly set to be backed with funds in the summer, with Calciomercato claiming the Blues are eyeing a move for Martinez.

And ex-Spurs boss Pochettino has hailed the forward as one of the elite attackers in world football.

"Lautaro Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world," Pochettino told Radio La Plata.

"It’s not just for what he does now, but for what his potential means going forward.

“If you start looking at hitmen for the big clubs, clearly his name has to be in there."
