Mauricio Pochettino reveals why he is happy despite last-gasp Liverpool defeat

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insisted he was happy despite their late heartache against Liverpool at Anfield.

A stoppage time own goal from Toby Alderweireld after a Hugo Lloris error handed the Reds a vital three points in the title race.

Spurs appeared set to take at least a point after Lucas Moura's equaliser and they had chances for a winner.

The result leaves them clinging on to their spot in the Premier League top four - sitting third on 61 points, level with Arsenal and just one point ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea in fifth and sixth respectively.

But Pochettino insisted he was happy as he hailed his side as "heroes" for their performance at Anfield.

Tottenham's Hugo Lloris opens up on his howler that put Liverpool top again

“In the second half we dominated a team like Liverpool,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“It is not easy to come here and dominate them. After the first half we conceded a goal when there was not too much happening in the game. That was tough for us but in the second half we started playing with a lot of confidence.

“It is very tough to lose the game in that way but I feel I am happy because the emotion and feeling we have got today will help us.

“It is now a mini-league – seven games and we are in the top four. It is in our hands.

“In the circumstances they [the Tottenham players] are more than heroes.

"We need to keep our trust and confidence and we will fight to be in the next Champions League.

"It is so important for the club to be in the top four at the end of the season.”

Spurs host the first Premier League game at their new stadium against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
