Mauricio Pochettino regrets saying he would never coach Barcelona, talks Tottenham sacking

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he regrets saying he could never coach Barcelona.

The out-of-work Argentine was considered for the Barca job before Ronald Koeman succeeded Quique Setien last month but supporters were unimpressed with comments from 2018, when Pochettino said he would rather work on a farm than manage the Catalans.

Pochettino began his managerial career at Barca's city rivals Espanyol after two spells there as a player.

But speaking to Spanish media this week, Pochettino opened the door to managing Barca in the future, claiming he was "wrong" to discount the possibility.

"I think the statements made the [Barca] fans reluctant to accept me, but at no time did I receive an offer to manage Barca," he said.

"I was wrong in the way I conveyed that it would be impossible in the future to manage Barcelona," he added.

"I was a bit exaggerated by not leaving an iota of doubt."

Meanwhile, Pochettino refused to blame Spurs for his sacking in November last year, claiming both sides were responsible for the schism.

"Relationships are broken due to the responsibility of both parties," he said. "I do not think there was a culprit. Coaches survive by winning games."
