Mauricio Pochettino quizzed on Manchester United managerial interest

Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino remained coy when he was quizzed on his future amid interest from Manchester United in possibly taking over the managerial position.

United accelerated their search for a new manager over the recent international break as Ajax boss Erik ten Hag emerged as the leading candidate for the role at the end of the season.

The Manchester Evening News revealed Ten Hag is United's preferred candidate last month - prior to his interview with the club - and it is understood United would only have to pay Ajax £1.7million to release the Dutchman from his current deal.

Former Tottenham manager Pochettino was the favoured pick among the majority of players two months ago and is still admired by United despite falling behind Ten Hag in the race for the Old Trafford hotseat.

The Argentine was booed by his own supporters ahead of PSG's win against Lorient over the weekend and after the match he was asked about the continued speculation regarding his future at the French club.

"If it is possible to stay at PSG next season? For the moment, I am not discussing my future with the leaders of the club," he told Foot Mercato.

"I have one year left on my contract, but it is important to analyse before making a decision and afterwards of course, we will also respect the decision taken by the club for the future.

"What will happen will happen."
