Mauricio Pochettino punished by UEFA after Ajax incident but escapes Champions League final ban

Mauricio Pochettino has been given a suspended one-game touchline ban by UEFA after Tottenham's late kick-off against Ajax in the Champions League.

UEFA hold managers responsible for late kick-offs, whatever the circumstances. Even though the game was played at Tottenham's stadium on April 30, Ajax boss Erik ten Hag received a warning for the late kick-off as it was his first offence.

However, as this is Spurs' second offence after a group game kicked off late, Pochettino was handed a one-match ban, which has been suspended for a year.

That means that the Argentine is free to be on the touchline for the Champions League final when Tottenham take on Liverpool in Madrid on June 1.

A statement by UEFA read, in relation to article 11 of their rules: "The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to fine Tottenham Hotspur FC €10,000 for the late kick-off, to suspend the Tottenham Hotspur FC coach Mauricio Pochettino for one UEFA competition match in  which he would otherwise participate, for the late kick-off.

"The suspension is deferred for a probation period of one year. Therefore, the coach is currently not suspended for any UEFA competition matches."

Spurs have also been fined 5000 euros after a fan was able to run on to the pitch against Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

After videos emerged of Tottenham fans being the victims of heavy-handed policing at the Champions League group stage match at the Camp Nou, the Catalan side appear to have been fined for the incident.

After finding a breach of article 11, a statement read: "The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to fine FC Barcelona €20,000 for the insufficient organisation."
