Mauricio Pochettino outlines Tottenham Hotspur game plan vs Man City

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham will approach the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Manchester City as if the scoreline is 0-0.

Son Heung-min scored the only goal of the game in the 78th-minute of the first leg after Pep Guardiola fielded a notably defensive starting XI, after City's fate was sealed at the same stage of the competition last season with a 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

Sergio Aguero missed a penalty in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the Blues failing to convince in front of goal thereafter.

City have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League just once in their history and will have to end their record of losing all five of their previous matches against English clubs in European competition to book their place in the last four.

And Pochettino says his side will look to gain the advantage of an away goal at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

"We must think that it's 0-0, that we need to do the job that we need if we want to be in the semi-final," the Argentine said.

"For sure it's going to be so difficult, so tough. We are playing with one of the best teams in Europe."

"For me the approach must be to act like it's 0-0. There is still a lot of work to do.

"It's so open. For me, Manchester City are still favourites but you know how the first leg was for us so why not make possible being in the semi-final.

"Always the belief is a key factor in the way that you approach the game. The faith, of course, it can be decisive.

"We must play like we played against City in the first leg. I'm sure that is going to be difficult.

"It's going to be tough at the Etihad in Manchester but belief is the most important thing."
