Mauricio Pochettino outlines Chelsea transfer plan with final squad overhaul date set

Chelsea are preparing to be very active in the transfer market in June as Mauricio Pochettino looks to have a finalised squad in place for pre-season. The Blues are looking to move on a number of senior players and trim down the squad size whilst adding a few new additions in key areas of the team.

football.london understands a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker are on Pochettino's agenda this summer. Todd Boehly has spent over £600million on new signings in the last 12 months - with many players failing to match expectations following their arrivals.

Pochettino will be working closely with Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley behind the scenes ahead of his official start date as Chelsea aim to meet his transfer demands. Talks are reportedly ongoing with Sporting CP over a deal to sign Manuel Ugarte, whilst Ruben Loftus-Cheek has given his green light for a move to AC Milan.

football.london reported earlier this month that the Italian giants had made contact with the Blues over a move for Loftus-Cheek with talks progressing. Chelsea are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of £22million, whilst Milan only want to pay around £17million.

A report from The Athletic has stated that the west Londoners are looking to be proactive in the transfer market this summer ahead of Pochettino's first pre-season in charge. The Argentine has already decided against bringing Joao Felix back to Stamford Bridge on loan next season, along with opting against activating Denis Zakaria's option-to-buy clause.

Chelsea will need to move on around eight to 10 players this summer as they look to reduce their wage bill and trim the squad size down - allowing for Pochettino to bring in quality players in key areas. However, the Blues may find it hard to shift on high earners unless they lower their asking prices.
