Mauricio Pochettino opens up on the reason why his Spurs team may have lost their creative spark

Mauricio Pochettino believes a drop in confidence may have played its part in Tottenham failing to create meaningful chances in their last two Premier League games.

The Lilywhites were well beaten at Brighton & Hove Albion prior to the international break and were lucky to leave the Amex having only conceded the three, before only just salvaging a late 1-1 draw against Watford on Saturday courtesy of Dele Alli's 86th minute equaliser.

What has been noticeable in the games is that the team have had limited opportunities on goal, with star man Harry Kane kept extremely quiet with chances extremely few and far between.

Spurs didn't have such a problem against Bayern Munich in their last European game as they had plenty of opportunities to find the net after Son Heung-min's early strike.

The misses proved incredibly costly as Robert Lewandowski's goal seconds before the break changed the game in the German's favour before they hit another five after the restart.

Tottenham v Watford: Mauricio Pochettino full post-match press conference

Pochettino believes the second-half demolition has definitely had an impact on the team but he believes it is "normal" given the size of the result.

"In the past two games yes," said the manager at his pre-match press conference. "But against Bayern Munich we create a lot of chances against one of the best teams in Europe but when the confidence drops to the floor, what happens in Brighton in the first action we concede a goal and losing Hugo, it’s normal.

"Then it is normal in the past two games. Maybe yes.

"But if you go back, the team was creating lot of chances. Our offensive side was good."

Asked if it's a confidence thing, he added: "Yes of course that is normal. It’s natural when you suffer a defeat like we suffer.

"It is one thing when you are not good and you lose 7-2 against Bayern Munich and from the first min to last minute you were so bad but when you analyse the game and the first half should have been 3-1 or 3-2 to us. That is the problem.

"But in the second half how we concede in certain period of the game and when we played well that is tough.

"That affects confidence and trust and then all that happened in Brighton, the game came so quick.

"We are in a period where we are fragile but like any team.

"Like Harry said, in five years the team did a lot of good things, we put standards so high."
