Mauricio Pochettino on Tottenham's big Harry Kane dilemma ahead of Liverpool final

Liverpool could be handed a boost ahead of their Champions League final clash with Tottenham Hotspur over the fitness of Harry Kane.

The 25-year-old has not played for Spurs since early April in their 1-0 win over Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the competition.

It was initially feared that he would miss the rest of the season only for the England international and his manager to talk up his chances of being involved if his team made the final.

After overcoming Ajax in dramatic fashion in the last four, Tottenham are now hours away from facing Liverpool in a climatic all-English showdown in Madrid.

Hopes were further boosted that Kane would be ready to face the Reds when he was spotted having his picture taken during the Spurs media day to prepare the relevant images for broadcast coverage of the Champions League final.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference from Madrid, Pochettino struck a more cautious tone when asked about the status of his wounded talisman.

"It’s normal that you’re asking me," said the Argentinian. "It’s difficult to put yourself in my place.

"It’s not going to be easy to take a decision tomorrow and every game you need to take a decision.

"Tomorrow we will have all the information and we will take the best decision to try to win.

"Of course it's painful to only use the 11 players. I proposed a few weeks ago for the whole squad to be in the photo. UEFA listened and I think both teams will have that possibility.

"We talk about a lot of problems in England and tomorrow we can show millions of people the value of togetherness.

"Football is a collective sport and the 25 players are so important. The energy of the players not playing will also be decisive in the changing room."

In 2014, Atletico Madrid named an unfit Diego Costa in their starting line up after the striker tried to overcome his injury to face Real Madrid.

Unfortunately, the gamble backfired and Real Madrid won the game 4-1, although their rivals did take the match into extra-time.
