Mauricio Pochettino names the best three players in the Premier League excluding Tottenham stars

Mauricio Pochettino has named Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Roberto Firmino as the best three players in the Premier League.

The former Tottenham Hotspur head coach picked the Manchester City duo as his top two, before settling for Liverpool striker Firmino as his last choice.

De Bruyne and Aguero have both been instrumental for City's success in recent years, with Pep Guardiola's side crowned Premier League champions for the last two seasons.

City finished on 98 points to win the title last year, just one point ahead of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, though the Reds are on course to win their first ever Premier League title this year.

Firmino has been an integral part of Liverpool's system, facilitating Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah's runs into the box and ability to score goals from wide positions.

And ex-Spurs boss Pochettino appreciated the Brazilian's contribution to the Reds' success by naming the 28-year-old among his trio of best players outside his former club.

"[Kevin] De Bruyne, one. [Sergio] Aguero. Another?" the Argentine said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"De Bruyne is going to be unfair, I don't know what I can tell you, [Roberto] Firmino, maybe? Yes.

"But there are hundreds of players I can describe."

Pochettino also opened up about his experience at Tottenham and revealed that he has spoken to Jose Mourinho since the Portuguese took over his job.

"Yes, yes, yes," he replied. "Look, with Jose, we know each other for a long time. When I was the coach of Espanyol, and he was at Real Madrid, we had a very good relationship. He’s a top coach.

"In life, look what happens. I'd always think [in those days] I’d replace him. He was at Real Madrid. I'd [think to myself] 'Oh, maybe one day I can take your place at Real Madrid' and look at how life works out!

"He has taken my place at Tottenham. Unbelievable, eh?"
