Mauricio Pochettino moves a step closer to Premier League return after Newcastle talks

Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has held 'concrete talks' with Newcastle United's prospective new owners about the prospect of becoming their new manager, a report by French media outlet L'Equipe claims.

The Magpies, who ran out 1-0 winners on their visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium all the way back in August, are moving closer to being taken over by a Saudi investment group, who are said to have grand ambitions for the Tyneside outfit.

And one area of the club they are looking to bolster in particular is the manager, with the prospective new owners eyeing up a big-name to replace Steve Bruce, who has done reasonably well in his first season in charge of his boyhood club.

Despite that, the prospective new owners are eager to appoint a big-name in the world of football management, with Pochettino being identified as their ideal candidate.

Reports in France claim that the Magpies' prospective new owners, who have grand ambitions to spend big-money on transforming the squad, are big admirers of the Argentine, with 'concrete talks' claimed to have taken place.

Pochettino is not the only fresh face the Saudi group are looking to add to Newcastle's coaching set-up, as they are also claimed to be interested in completely restructuring the entire first-team coaching set-up, as they look to try and raise Newcastle's global profile.

Pochettino, who has been out of work since being sacked by Spurs last November, has spent a combined total of six years in the Premier League as a manager, in charge of both Spurs and before that Southampton.
