Mauricio Pochettino: Manchester United target reveals latest on PSG future after fan jeers before Lorient win

Mauricio Pochettino insists he has yet to discuss his future with Paris Saint-Germain amid continued strong links to the Manchester United job.

Along with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, ex-Spurs coach Pochettino is considered a strong contender to take over from interim manager Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford at the end of the season, with the likes of Spain’s Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui of Sevilla also rumoured to be on the shortlist.

The huge ongoing doubts over Pochettino’s PSG future are seen as a clear boost to United in their long-term pursuit of the Argentine, who was booed by his own fans ahead of the 5-1 win over Lorient on Sunday night.

While PSG are firmly on course to regain the Ligue 1 title with a 12-point buffer to nearest challengers Marseille and only eight games left to play this term, another high-profile failure in the Champions League will likely spell the end of his tenure in the French capital.

PSG - who have also failed to reach the Coupe de France final for the first time since 2014 - were stunned by Real Madrid in the last-16, blowing a 2-0 aggregate lead courtesy of a stunning 17-minute hat-trick from Karim Benzema in the second half of the second leg at the Bernabeu last month.

Pochettino is under contract at the Parc des Princes until the summer of 2023 after the option for a one-year extension to his initial 18-month agreement was taken up last July.

Quizzed again on his future on Sunday night, he told Foot Mercato: “I am not discussing my future with the club as of now. I have one year left on my contract, we need to analyse the situation before making a decision.”
