Mauricio Pochettino makes Levi Colwill Chelsea prediction amid Liverpool transfer interest

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino expects Levi Colwill will be a part of the club's pre-season tour amid transfer interest from the likes of Liverpool.

Colwill enjoyed a successful first season in the Premier League in 2022-23 on loan from Chelsea at Brighton & Hove Albion. And his future has been cause for speculation with the Seagulls looking to make a permanent move for the centre-back.

Liverpool are also admirers of the England Under-21 international - who has continued his brilliant campaign at the European Under-21 Championships - as the ECHO first reported in March.

While the Reds are exploring their centre-back options, it remains to be seen if their interest in Colwill will get anywhere given Chelsea have made it clear they do not want to sell.

This week, the ECHO's sister site football.london reported that Liverpool have made "multiple" enquires about the 20-year-old, but that Chelsea remain determined to keep him within their ranks.

For the moment, Colwill's future is on hold, with England looking to win the European Under-21 Championship for the third time, and the first since 1984, when they face Spain in Batumi, Georgia in Saturday's final.

Pochettino spoke in his first press conference as Chelsea boss on Friday and wished both Colwill and his England team-mate Noni Madueke luck for the final. However, he wasn't drawn on the speculation surrounding the former.

"We spoke yesterday with Levi [Colwill] and Noni [Madueke]," Pochettino said. "One I know, Noni, from Tottenham, he was in the U18s and of course, Levi, but with them I wish the best for tomorrow.

"For me it's difficult because it's Spain [vs] England but I wish them all the best. I think we are waiting for them to be with the team, I think they will fly to America and join us."
