Mauricio Pochettino issues Tottenham challenge to Man City beyond Champions League tie

Mauricio Pochettino wants Tottenham to be challenging the best teams in Europe now their new stadium is built.

The Spurs manager talked up Manchester City and the team that Pep Guardiola has put together ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second leg.

He suggested that the two clubs are striving for different objectives, but they will both be playing for the same prize over 90 minutes at the Etihad on Wednesday and Pochettino is looking to threaten City in every competition they play in in the coming years.

"After this season, we need to translate to our fans and to you what we want to do which is our challenge for the next few years," he said.

"We need to be real contenders fighting for the Premier League and the Champions League with our new stadium because after to win is tough, the same for Manchester City or Manchester United or Real Madrid or Barcelona. Investing a lot of money is so difficult to win because only one can win.

"For us, it is going to be a challenge and tough to find a way. Still, we are not there. We are competing at a very good level in the last few years but there is a lot of work to do to arrive at the last level and the level that we want to be."
