Mauricio Pochettino hits out at Liverpool and Tottenham comparison and explains why his side are different

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino insists it’s unfair to compare his side to Liverpool.

Pochettino’s team was battling for the Premier League title at the turn of the year with Liverpool and Manchester City but ended up falling away.

Instead, Spurs are now in a four-way battle to make the top four in the Premier League, with Pochettino and his team landing some criticism for choking in big games.

But Pochettino has hit back at comparisons between Spurs and Liverpool ahead of the clash between the two on Sunday afternoon. He claims the vast difference in spending means Spurs are not on the same level as their rivals.

“You cannot compare (Liverpool and Tottenham),” Pochettino told Sky Sports. “When he (Klopp) arrived at Liverpool, it was only about focusing to try to build a team to be able to compete and be a real contender with other teams.

“Our philosophy is completely different and we cannot compare our two projects, they are on a completely different level.”

Pochettino went further in explaining his point by insisting the new stadium project at Spurs has reduced their ability to improve in the transfer market, while their rivals have spent heavily to challenge for the Premier League trophy.
