Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Moussa Sissoko could play right-back this weekend against Brighton.
The full-back slot has been a troubled position so far this term following Kieran Trippier's summer move to Atletico Madrid.
Pochettino set a challenge to his players to fill that void but no player in the Tottenham squad has been able to capitalise so far.
Kyle Walker-Peters started the season as first choice right-back, but an injury saw him being replaced by Serge Aurier more recently.
Aurier has also struggled to make the required impact and will sit out Saturday's clash with Brighton after being sent off for two bookable offences against Southampton last week.
With the slot becoming vacant once again, Pochettino has said that he plans to shake things up by handing midfielder Sissoko the spot in defence for the clash at the AMEX Stadium.
Asked in his about who could replace Aurier, he said: "A few options, I think Moussa (Sissoko) was very good playing one hour against Southampton with tough players like Boufal or Redmond.
"He did very well and that made me think a little bit that his option is bigger than another player."
