Mauricio Pochettino handed big Giovani Lo Celso boost ahead of West Ham clash

Giovani Lo Celso will now be on his way back to Hotspur Way following Argentina's final international game of 2019.

Beating Brazil 1-0 in a friendly on Friday courtesy of Lionel Messi's early goal, the Albiceleste finished the year with a 2-2 draw against Uruguay in Israel.

Looking set to fall to a defeat after Luis Suarez had put Uruguay back ahead after Sergio Aguero had cancelled out Edinson Cavani's opener, Messi restored parity in stoppage time with a penalty.

Spurs had both Lo Celso and Juan Foyth in the Argentina squad over the international break and the good news for Mauricio Pochettino was that neither player took to the pitch in their final match.

With both starting against Brazil last week, manager Lionel Scaloni decided to shake things up with his starting XI and that meant that the Lilywhites duo were named on the substitutes' bench.

The first ever north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

With Lo Celso sustaining a hip injury on international duty in September that ruled him out of action for more than a month, Pochettino was very vocal about his inclusion in the Argentina squad for the latest batch of games.

Speaking at his press conference prior to the Everton match at the start of November, he said: "Always the managers want your players at home.

"For him, it's going to be tough because when he's nearly fit again to start to play he needs to go away.

"Changing the dynamics of training sessions can wrong situations can happen.

"Being honest, I am not happy, but I accept it, as I always defend the national team and back the decision of national team.

"I was a player and know what it feels to play. I can do nothing, only describe my feelings."

Given that Lo Celso didn't feature at all against Uruguay and only played 59 minutes in the win over Brazil, Pochettino will be very happy that he had limited gametime for Argentina's matches as he will want him fit and firing for Spurs' crucial clash against West Ham on Saturday.

Starting the last two games for the Lilywhites and making quite an impression, there's a good chance the 23-year-old may find himself in the team once again as he finally looks to get a good run in the side after a frustrating start to his Spurs career.
