Mauricio Pochettino had to say goodbye to Spurs players with a note after sudden sacking

Mauricio Pochettino reportedly had to say goodbye to his Tottenham players by note after his sudden Spurs sacking.

The Argentine was axed by the north Londoners on Tuesday night as owner Daniel Levy moved to appoint Jose Mourinho after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Tottenham are languishing in 14th in the Premier League table and are already 11 points off the top four after winning just three of their opening 12 games.

And Levy decided to act by axing Pochettino after five and a half years at White Hart Lane, including leading Spurs to the Champions League final last term.

But the decision came so swiftly that Pochettino was not able to personally say his goodbyes to his players, and instead had to leave a note, report The Sun.

It apparently read: "Sorry we cannot come to say goodbye, you are always in our hearts.”

Several Spurs players paid tribute to Pochettino after his departure from the club was confirmed.

Skipper Harry Kane tweeted: "Gaffer. I’ll be forever thankful to you for helping me achieve my dreams.

"We’ve had some amazing moments in the last 5 and a half years that I will never forget. You were my manager but my friend as well and I thank you for that relationship.

"Good luck with your next chapter!"

Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga added: "Thank you for your confidence and for all I've learned from you on and off the pitch.

"I wish you always the best Mauricio, Toni, Miguel and Jesus."
