Mauricio Pochettino fits the bill for Arsenal as Edu tasked with finding new boss

Arsenal legend Edu is the man charged with identifying the type of manager the club want to take charge.

And there is a growing feeling that Mauricio Pochettino would be their No.1 choice in the way he fits the brief of developing young players, his coaching, style of play and communication.

Arsenal could not get Brendan Rodgers and fear that Pochettino may not be willing to destroy his legacy at Tottenham by joining their bitter rivals. This column has been told that West Ham sounded him out - but were told no and that he is not available until the summer.

They will hope that caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg can take charge until they get the right man in place and that may not be until the summer when Pochettino would be available after his “golden handshake” after being sacked by Spurs.

However, the leading two candidates who would be available appear to be Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta and former captain Patrick Vieira, now in charge at Nice.

Arsenal’s worst financial scenario was always being out of the Champions League for three years and they have budgeted for that but cuts are beginning to bite as they face another season in the European wilderness.

Amazon's bigger play

Amazon have been toasting the success of their Premier League debut - and look ready to become an even bigger player in the future.

There was a record number of sign-ups for the online broadcaster as Tuesday beat their previous best and was then quickly beaten by Wednesday with Manchester United hosting Tottenham and the Merseyside derby that night.

It has driven remarkable interest in Prime Video who also have the rights to show every Premier League fixture on Boxing Day.

They have enough financial backing and pulling power to compete on a bigger scale in the next round of TV football rights and could soon be a challenger to Sky and BT.

The experiment has been a massive hit at Amazon with executives now interested in more coverage, especially as there was such strong feedback from viewers and no huge technical glitches.

It has been a big pull for Amazon as it is vitally important for their other online interests like shopping, delivery, streaming and other TV shows on Prime Video.

Alex Green, managing director of Prime Video Sport Europe, said: “We’re delighted that millions of football fans enjoyed watching Amazon’s first ever round of Premier League matches on Prime Video.”

Dortmund's Sancho stance

Jadon Sancho is a wanted man even if Borussia Dortmund do not want to sell the England winger in January.

However, it is understood that despite links elsewhere, Manchester United believe they are in pole position to strike a deal with Dortmund.

United also want Christian Eriksen and, even though the Dane wants to go to Spain, Spurs are likely to want to sell in January rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

Former Manchester City and Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna will be Sky’s studio guest when the two clubs meet at the Emirates on Sunday.

Sagna was a brilliant Premier League full back, quietly spoken but a big character and if he can get that across he will be an entertaining addition to the punditry circuit.
