Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is now the even-money favourite to take over from Steve Bruce as Newcastle United manager.
Bruce replaced Rafa Benitez at the start of last season and has done a fine job, with the Toon sat 13th in the Premier League table – eight points clear of the drop zone – at the time of the coronavirus shutdown.
However, the club’s prospective new owners look certain to bring in a new man and Standard Sport understands Pochettino is a leading candidate.
The Argentine has been out of work since he was sacked by Tottenham and replaced by Jose Mourinho in November last year.
Amid reports suggesting he is the Magpies’ number one target, Betfair have slashed the odds on the 48-year-old stepping into the St. James’ Park dugout into evens, with Benitez rated as a 10/3 shot to return to the job he vacated 12 months ago.
Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach who led Flamengo to Copa Libertadores glory last season, is third favourite at 6/1, while former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is 10/1, the same price as what would be a remarkable third-stint for Kevin Keegan, who has not managed since being sacked by the club more than a decade ago.
