Mauricio Pochettino drops hint over future after significant Tottenham admission

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he sees his long term future with Paris Saint-Germain despite recent rumours linking him with a return to north London.

The Argentine was sacked by Spurs in 2019 and replaced by Jose Mourinho, a move that is widely viewed as a huge mistake given the drop in quality over the subsequent months.

Nuno Espirito Santo replaced his compatriot but lasted just four months in the role with the Tottenham fans growing more and more frustrated with his lacklustre style of play.

A statement appointment followed in the shape of Antonio Conte and there is hope that the serial winner will be able to turn Spurs into a ruthless winning machine during his time at the club.

However, the Italian is not exactly known for staying in a job for a long time, more commonly achieving instant success and departing soon after. This has happened during his spells with Chelsea and Inter Milan.

As such, speculation about a potential return of Pochettino will no doubt return at some point in the future.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under growing pressure at Old Trafford, he has also been linked with the Manchester United job in the future, but has seemingly attempted to cool speculation.

In a recent press conference, the 2019 Champions League finalist talked up the quality of his current squad, claiming they were up their with the best in the world.

"We are talking about the best players in the world," Pochettino told a number of French media outlets, via Manchester Evening News.

"It is difficult to compare because… I hate to compare the players because we are talking about the best players in the world, and 20 years ago of course this was Jay-Jay Okocha, Ronaldinho, Nicolas Anelka… Many players that were amazing.

"And now we are talking about Neymar, Mbappe, Messi… you cannot go higher than this level of player."

He was also asked about his future and provided a typically evasive response.

"For me, at PSG there is only one objective: it is to win the next game," he said.

"If not, you have a problem. I know what is happening in this type of club. Paris is one of the biggest clubs in the world and you have to be focused on winning the next game."

However, before agreeing to join PSG, Pochettino appeared on BT Sport to discuss his future, and was direct in his answer when asked whether he would ever return to Spurs.

"Deep inside, I think maybe in five years, maybe in ten years, the universe will see that before I die I will manage Tottenham again," he said.
