Mauricio Pochettino 'discussed PSG job with Unai Emery' after Tottenham sacking

Mauricio Pochettino allegedly discussed the prospect of becoming Paris Saint-Germain manager with Unai Emery shortly after the two were sacked from Tottenham and Arsenal respectively.

Pochettino is the hot favourite to take the reigns at the French giants after they confirmed the departure of Thomas Tuchel on Tuesday.

The Argentinean has had to wait patiently for a new opportunity having been out of a job since being fired by Spurs last November.

And according to The Independent he met for lunch with Emery after he himself was axed by the Gunners just ten days later.

Emery was in charge of PSG for two seasons between 2016-2018, winning the Ligue 1 title in his final campaign before make the move to north London.

And it is claimed that Pochettino was intrigued in hearing about Emery's experiences at the club, as it was one of the teams he could see himself managing in the near future.

Pochettino played for PSG for three years between 2000-03, and looks almost certain for an emotional return in the coming days.

PSG currently sit in third place in Ligue 1 but are only a point behind leaders Lyon and second-placed Lille.

They also secured qualification for the last-16 of the Champions League, where they will face Barcelona.

There will be big pressure on Pochettino to deliver the goods in the French capital, despite the fact he has yet to win a major trophy as a coach.

He finished a runner-up in the Champions League in 2019 and League Cup in 2015 with Spurs, and will no doubt be desperate to go one step further if he does end up with the PSG job.

Emery, meanwhile, has flourished with Villarreal since leaving Arsenal, with his side sitting fifth in La Liga and putting pressure on those at the top of the table.
