Mauricio Pochettino confirms contact with two clubs as he eyes managerial return

Mauricio Pochettino says he has had contact with two clubs as he plots a way back into football management.

The former Tottenham boss has been out of work since his sacking by Spurs in last November, with the axe falling just five months after he led his team in a Champions League final.

The former Southampton boss has been linked with several jobs since then, but remains out of work despite being one of the most highly-regarded managers in the modern game.

Pochettino's name was linked with the recently vacant role at Barcelona following the removal of Quique Setien, but his past with Barca's rivals Espanyol was said to have counted against his chances of getting the job, which was eventually taken by Ronald Koeman.

The Argentinean had previously stated that he wouldn't coach Barca, but while he now insists that was a tongue in cheek statement, he says he wouldn't take charge of the club while Josep Maria Bartomeu is president.

"They didn't offer me to coach Barca," Pochettino told Marca. "I didn't see myself with Bartomeu.

"I did eat with [sporting director] Ramon Planes because we have a friendship for many years, since 2009 when he signed for Espanyol."

Pochettino also clarified reports that he had been offered several top jobs across Europe, confirming talks with only two clubs.

"Neither PSG, nor Juventus, nor Inter Milan [made offers]," he added.

"I did have a call from Benfica and Monaco. I have no need to lie."

For now though he remains out of work, and says that it is still his aim to coach Real Madrid one day.

"I don't know if I'll ever coach Madrid, but of course it's my dream," he said.

"If it's not the best it's one of the best clubs in the world. I'm no different, everyone has it on their dream list."
