Mauricio Pochettino assures Tottenham squad he will still pick players whose futures are uncertain

Mauricio Pochettino has assured his Tottenham squad that he will not make selection decisions based on their contract situations for the rest of this month.

Three of his leading players - Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen - have entered the final year of their contracts, while Danny Rose has two years remaining and was put on the transfer-list this summer.

With European clubs able to buy players until the end of the month, the futures of Eriksen and Rose remain uncertain, but Pochettino has promised his squad he will not be affected by contract issues.

While Alderweireld and Rose played 90 minutes in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend, Pochettino left Vertonghen and Eriksen out of his starting XI over concerns about their fitness.

Although the Spurs boss is mindful of the need to prepare for life without Eriksen, he is thought to have left him out as a precaution after he underwent groin surgery in June. Vertonghen, meanwhile, was dropped amid concerns it would be a risk to start him due to his fitness levels.
