Mauricio Pochettino admits he hasn't yet decided whether Tottenham's summer signing Ryan Sessegnon is going to end up as a defender or a winger.
The 19-year-old joined Spurs in a £30m deal in the summer from Fulham with Josh Onomah heading in the opposite direction.
Sessegnon's deadline day signing has gone slightly under the radar in the weeks since because of the hamstring he has been recuperating from since the European U21 Championships in June.
However, the teenager is now back in full training with Pochettino's men and the next quest is to work out which position he will flourish in.
Sessegnon began life as a left-back at Fulham before switching into a more attacking wing role on the whole. Last season, his first in the Premier League, saw him playing at left-back, left wing, right-back and right wing in a struggling Fulham side.
The youngster still managed six assists and two goals despite spending a chunk of the season unable to find a regular starting spot under Claudio Ranieri before the Italian's sacking and Fulham's relegation.
Pochettino is going to study Sessegnon closely to work out where the teenager's best position lies.
"I cannot tell you today. We'll see, because today [Thursday] was the first day he was involved with the whole team and still he's not had one tactical session with us," said the Spurs boss.
"We had six or seven players training in the last week and still I cannot tell if he's going to play in one or another position. We're going to assess him and see how he adapts to the new club and new level of football.
"From the Championship with Fulham to Tottenham in the Champions League is going to be completely different. The good thing is that he has the capacity to play in different positions. That's an interesting quality and maybe he can play in different positions for us. It will be very helpful."
Pochettino hopes that Sessegnon will thrive on a bigger stage after a tough first season in the Premier League.
"That shows that you can be a very good player but you need a platform, team-mates, and good coaching staff to help you," he said. "And then you need time and luck and training hard and hard work.
"Sometimes people don't realise that for a player with talent, to have a good career and be successful you need a platform. And Tottenham, I hope, will provide that platform.
"It's the platform that was provided for Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Harry Winks and different players that were very successful in their moment. I hope that happens with him too because he's a great talent."
