Mauricewood Road crash: Midlothian route closed after accident involving two cars

A busy Midlothian road has been closed to traffic after a two-vehicle crash.

Police were called to the scene of an accident on Mauricewood Road, close to the junction with the A701 Edinburgh Road, at around 11.05am. Ambulance crews are also in attendance.

Two cars, a Kia and a Skoda, have been involved in the collision.

Police say that road closures are currently in place while emergency crews deal with the incident. Traffic is said to be slow on surrounding routes as a result.

Lothian Buses are also notifying people that a number of their services have been affected by the incident, with buses 37, 47, 140 and X15 all being diverted.

They say: "Due to a road closure at Edinburgh Road buses are unable to serve Penicuik and are instead terminating at Gowkley Moss Roundabout until further notice."

Police Scotland Control Rooms also said on Twitter that traffic heading towards Penicuik is being diverted.

We'll bring you further updates on this incident as we get them.
