Maurice Jones-Drew slots the Jags Kyler Murray in his first mock draft

Despite him no longer being with the team and being an analyst with NFL Network, former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has always kept himself in the loop about his former team. One of their issues he’s been on record for discussing is their quarterback situation, which is exactly why he slotted the Jags Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray in his first mock draft of the season for NFL Network.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars

School: Oklahoma | Year: Junior (RS)
The Jags have an opportunity to get the next Patrick Mahomes. Murray is an explosive playmaker who will fit in well with a good defense.

Jones-Drew is not the first and won’t be the last to associate Murray with Jacksonville as his mix of explosiveness as a runner and passing abilities could take them back to where they were in 2017. However, one has to wonder if his size (listed at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds) will bother them, especially with Tom Coughlin, who tends to go for more traditional sized quarterbacks, running the show in Jacksonville. Then again, the legendary Doug Flutie, who went to Coughlin’s alma mater, Boston College, has shown the league that smaller quarterbacks can get it done, too.

When looking at their current state at quarterback and the options they’ve passed on in the past like Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, I think most fans would agree the Jags shouldn’t be overlooking any play-making quarterback. That should especially be the case for one who won the Heisman, accumulated a 68.3 percent completion rate, threw for nearly 40 touchdowns and ran for 11 in 2018.
