Speaking to the ITV news show's hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, she said: "She (the Queen) was such a geezer, I can’t tell you!

"We were all in love with her, even the most hardened, you know, the guys in the green room saying, 'I’m not putting a jacket on.'

"Because out she popped from her plum-coloured car and talked to everybody, 'oh you're sound are you? So you're not in the...' and she asked me about my dog."

Evelyn made her entrance on Corrie when Tyrone discovered that his mum and dad were not his real parents.

He traced Evelyn Plummer through social media and was distraught to discover that his mum Cassandra had died in South Africa some years before.

Evelyn initially wanted nothing to do with Tyrone, but when she lost her home she ended up at Number 9 Coronation Street with her long-lost grandson, his partner Fiz and their children Hope and Ruby.

And she won the hearts of Corrie fans with her straight-talking ways.

Her impressive CV includes film roles in The Pianist, Educating Rita and Oklahoma.

She has also appeared in TV series including All at Number 20, The Fugitives, Where the Heart Is and Plebs.

She is also fondly remembered for her role as Beatie in the 1980s BT Adverts.

Her theatre credits include more than 25 West End productions including the award-winning Oklahoma with Hugh Jackman, and her one woman show, Up For It, at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

She has also written 10 books including her best-known title, How Was it for You?

Her late husband, screenwriter Jack Rosenthal, wrote over 100 early episodes of Coronation Street.

During her first stint on Corrie she was best remembered for her pet Mynah bird, Dinah the Mynah, and famously barred Norris Cole and Rita Sullivan from the boozer on her first day.

But her time behind the bar was short-lived and she left when she was offered a better job in Marple.
