Maura Higgins praised as she makes This Morning debut in new agony aunt role

Maura Higgins made her debut as This Morning’s agony aunt on Wednesday and went down a treat with viewers.

The Longford native dished out her best no-nonsense advice as viewers phoned in and asked her to help them out with their relationship woes.

Maura stayed true to her motto of ‘saying it how it is’ while also offering practical advice - and viewers of the hit show fronted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford couldn’t get enough, RSVP Live reports.

Between falling in love with a friend, seeking tips on how to be more confident and looking for advice on how to move on from someone, Maura was ready to share her words of wisdom.

When the first caller asked her how does she tell her best friend that she fancies her brother, Maura told her: “It’s really not a bad thing.

“I feel like you need to be honest, because if you continue this but don’t tell her she is going to feel not only betrayed by you but betrayed by her brother as well and that’s not really a good thing because you’re friendship isn’t going to last.

“Honesty is the best policy and it will be hard to tell her but you need to do it.”

Another caller sounded quite upset as she explained to the Love Island star that she has been in love with somebody for fifteen years and can’t move on from him.

“Has he ever told you he loved you?” Maura asked to which she replied: “When he’s been drunk, yeah.”

“That’s not okay,” Maura said straightaway.

“You know what, this is really hard. When you’re in love with someone you can’t see past that.

“The only thing for you to do is cut contact. You don’t want to be in the same situation for the next 15 years. You need to cut it now because you will get over him,” Maura kindly reassured her.

The TV star was even able to relate to one caller, who wondered was she wasting her time being in a dead-end relationship.

Maura compared the situation to that of her and her ex-boyfriend, with whom she was with for nine years.

She said: “To be honest, you just kinda get stuck in a rut, it becomes a routine.

“What I’d do is sit him down and maybe say to him, ‘It would be a good time to go on a break,’ and see what he says.

"It’ll be scary because you’ll be thinking, ‘oh my god - what if we go on a break and he doesn’t want me after that?’

“Well you know what, if he doesn’t, you deserve better than that.”

Viewers absolutely loved Maura’s approach to solving people’s problems and it seems she has become an instant hit straightaway.

Many took to Twitter to praise her efforts, with one viewer writing: Actually love Maura on #ThisMorning shes so brutally honest genuinely love it.”

A second added: “No messing, Maura! Never watched Love Island but I like her!”

While a third agreed: “You might just catch me watching #thismorning every morning now that Maura is on it, great craic”.
