Maura Higgins has given the hilarious Love Island Saturday Night Live comedy skit a thumbs up.
The Longford model was mercilessly mocked alongside her castmates in a sketch led by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge over the weekend.
But Maura saw the funny side and even retweeted it to her 122,000 followers on Twitter on Sunday.
The Irish character, who is modelled on Maura, says on the show: “I’m from the part of Ireland where the soil is bones.
“Watch the hottest people from the worst towns. It turns out they also have 100% pure grade trash, just like us.”
In one scene “Maura” – caked in fake tan and wearing a crop top, dangly earrings and a top bun – remarks to a fellow islander played by Aidy Bryant: “You know I tink I put so much bronzer on I tink I might have brown-face”. Speaking about the character – who struggles to get off a beanbag and is unrecognisable without her “contour” – Maura said: “She’s a really nice girl but I think her face might be a thumb.”
Meanwhile, Waller-Bridge’s character tells us: “My dad’s a boxer and my mom’s a pub...Just got my lips done. I asked the doctor for an allergic reaction.”
And the fake ad for the show states: "You will watch 50 hours of this… you think you won’t but you will."
US audiences tuned in online to watch Love Island this summer when Maura was the breakout star Stateside, as well as in the UK. Actress Lena Dunham – who tuned in while filming a drama in Wales – had a lot of love for mouthy Maura, who she called an “Irish sparkplug” before pledging allegiance to her.
And Hollywood star and Saturday Night Live regular Amy Schumer also got behind the grid girl.
In a fan video released during Love Island, the comedian said: “I want to give a shout out to Maura.
“She’s just like my homie – I feel very connected to her.”
