Reality star Maura Higgins has landed a major new television role in the US, just two months after she was caught in a “drunken kiss” with married McFly singer Danny Jones.
The 34-year-old appears to have weathered the backlash from the incident, which took place at Universal Music’s BRIT Awards afterparty in March, as her star continues to rise across the Atlantic.
Maura’s latest break comes after winning over American viewers while presenting a previous Love Island spin-off last year, according to The Sun. She’s now been confirmed as the returning host of Love Island USA: Aftersun.
A source said: “Maura’s signed on for a new series of Love Island USA — she was so popular after the last season it was clear bosses would sign her up.
“They don’t care about any personal life drama she has in the UK — she’s been a huge hit with US audiences.”
Following the BRITs scandal, Maura travelled to the US for a western-themed fashion shoot and attended Coachella, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber.
She also appears to have shrugged off the drama by spending time with Hollywood A-lister Margot Robbie. The Barbie actress, who’s known to be a fan of Love Island, met Maura for a glamorous lunch while the pair were in London.
Maura rose to fame on the 2019 series of Love Island, where she finished fourth alongside then-boyfriend Curtis Pritchard, and has since appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, where she met Danny Jones.
After he was spotted kissing Maura at the BRITs, Jones, 38, issued a public apology to his wife Georgia Horsley, a former Miss England, and their son Cooper.
In an Instagram Story, he wrote: “Sorry it’s taken me a while to post this but I’ve taken some time out to be with those closest to me.
“I want to deeply apologise to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much and we’ll continue to deal with this privately.
“I love you guys, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. See you all soon, Danny.”
