Maura Higgins has been branded a “racist” and an “IRA bomber” in a wrath of online abuse for saying she didn’t think Winter Love Island contestant Nas Majeed “is sexy”.
The Longford beauty, 29, was on the very first episode of Aftersun with Laura Whitmore on Monday night talking and declared she wouldn’t have picked any of the boys.
The Dancing on Ice star said: “There’s not actually [anyone who gives me fanny flutters]. I would’t have stepped forward for any of those guys.
“But I’m the type, I need to get to know them a lot longer as I do go on personality more than anything.”
But the trouble ensued online when Maura was later asked about Nas and his relationship with Siannise, and insisted she agreed with her for friend zoning him so early on.
She said: “Do you blame her really? He’s a nice guy, but you’re not going to be like ‘Oh my Jesus!’
“He’s not sexy, she obviously just wants a really sexy man. Just being a good dude doesn’t cut it.”
Her comments infuriated some viewers and attracted the wrath of trolls.
Flooding her Twitter with awful comments, angry fans of the show branded Maura “racist” in an offensive tweet about her Irish roots.
The user wrote: “Maura saying Nas isn’t sexy but shes dating Curtis who is clearly... a beta male ....this IRA bomber needs to chill with the racism #LoveIsland .”
Another tweeted: “You gonna pull up on maura for saying nas isn’t sexy? The racist undertones on these shows are peak.”
