A Gold Coast woman has been charged with fraud after allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from deceased estates.

Queensland Police charged the 47-year-old Maudsland woman, accusing her of using her position at a law practice to misappropriate $400,000 after being engaged to settle deceased estates.

Police allege the woman withdrew funds for her own personal gain from a legal trust account holding funds for beneficiaries between 2017 and 2019.

She was investigated by police following a referral from the Queensland Law Society.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kirk Bellotti of the Financial and Cyber Crime Group said police worked closely with law and financial sectors to spot the suspicious behaviour.

"Investigations of this type are often complex," he said.

The woman was charged with 10 counts of fraud and one count of forgery and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on April 26.
