Maturity has been a big part of Vikings CB Mackensie Alexander’s growth

It took a little while, but Vikings cornerback Mackensie Alexander finally lived up to his second-round selection.

Last season, Alexander posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 78.1, a mark that ranked 17th in the league and was a 24-point increase from the previous season.

A big reason for Alexander’s improvement? Maturity.

“I think a big part of it was that Mackensie (Alexander) has grown up a whole lot since his time here. I think the increased reps and those kinds of things have helped him,” Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards said Wednesday.
“He has more experience now at the position. He understands not only his job, but how his job affects everybody around him communication-wise, technique-wise and fundamental-wise.”

Alexander is now considered a strength in the Vikings secondary, after being considered a weakness for the first two years of his career.

This all comes at a very good time for Alexander, assuming he can have another solid season considering he’s in a contract year.
