Matty Smith swaps Waterford for St Pat's

Matty Smith has completed his move to St Patrick’s Athletic ahead of the new Premier Division season.

The Saints today sealed a deal for the Scottish attacker, 23, who spent last season at Waterford.

Smith had seven years with Dundee United before that, where he had loan spells at Montrose and Cove Rangers.

“It’s a pleasure to join St Pat’s and I’m really looking forward to getting back over to Ireland and the season starting up,” said Smith.

“I’m really happy to be a St Pat’s player. I’ve been in contact with the gaffer (Stephen O’Donnell) for a few months and he was very eager to get me in. It was a no-brainer.

“He wants me to play with freedom and express myself going forward. I hope to get more goals and assists and kick on in the league.”

Smith is the second former Waterford player to sign for the Saints in as many days after Sam Bone moved from the Blues yesterday.
