Wigan Warriors have confirmed that Matty Peet will be the club's new coach in 2022, with Shaun Wane's return to the DW Stadium also confirmed.
Peet, a long-serving assistant of the club for 13 years, has been promoted to the role of head coach following Adrian Lam's departure at the end of the current Super League season. It is his first role as a head coach, and he becomes the youngest coach in Super League in the process.
He will be supported by assistant coaches Sean O'Loughlin and Lee Briers - who makes the move from Warrington to Wigan - while England head coach Wane is also back at the club with whom he coached to the Super League title in a new role as leadership and management director.
Peet worked under Wane during the latter's time as head coach, but he will now head up the on-field coaching. "It's yet another example of Wigan promoting within," Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan said.
Long-time assistant coach John Winder has stepped down to take up a new role with the club’s partner company, Competence Development.
