Matty Longstaff still to receive fresh offer from Newcastle as midfielder explores change of agent

Newcastle United are yet to make a fresh offer to Matty Longstaff in order to secure his services beyond this season.

The midfielder - who celebrated his 20th birthday this week - was unable to agree on terms with the Magpies earlier this year.

As reported by Chronicle Live recently, Longstaff does have one concrete offer on the table from a European club believed to be from Serie A.

Despite being handed extra thinking time, and on the back of recent new deals for Federico Fernandez, Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey, no new talks with Longstaff have taken place.

As it stands, Longstaff is still represented by Beswick Sports - who are understood to have a contract with both Matty and Sean Longstaff - but discussions to find a new representative are thought to have taken place after both brothers did not land new contracts on Tyneside.

Steve Bruce was asked about the situation before the season's enforced break due to the virus pandemic, and said: "Of course it's a concern.

"I just hope that he looks at it as a football decision. Ultimately, when you are 19, it is about how you look after your career, rather than anything else.

"I'm pretty sure there are people in his ear, and distractions.

"At the end of the day, if you have a successful career, money will find you.

"He's a 19-year-old who has done very well.

"Tell me another 19-year-old who's played in the Premier League this year?

"There's not many. I hope he finds a conclusion with the club, I really do. He knows what I think of him."
