Matty Longstaff set for crunch Newcastle United contract talks

Steve Bruce will hold face to face talks with Matty Longstaff in a bid to agree a new contract at Newcastle United.

The ongoing contract wrangle has resulted in Serie A side Udinese making an approach for the young midfielder and offering him a five-year deal - reportedly at £30,000 per week.

Udinese were in relegation trouble but a won 2-0 away to AS Roma last night.

Bruce, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "We're having a meeting this afternoon with him so I hope that is going to be positive. We are still hoping that we can overcome something.

"We don't want to be losing our young player or our best players. So it's important that we try to get over the line with Matty.

"He's a young player from the area and we don't want to lose him.

"We are seeing a lot of young player tempted abroad. I hope he stays and sees his career is at Newcastle."

Longstaff was playing for United just last season in the Checkatrade Trophy and Premier League 2.

But broke on to the scene in the summer in pre-season and Bruce cancelled an arranged loan stint with Bradford City.
