Matty Longstaff joined a unique club by scoring on Premier League bow for Newcastle - the full list of debutant scorers

Matty Longstaff's goal against Manchester United has propelled him into a very unique club at Newcastle United.

His strike at the Gallowgate End makes him the youngest ever Premier League debutant to score at St James' Park at 19-years-old.

But there are only seven other players that have the honour of scoring on their top flight bow.

Here is that elusive list of scorers:

Alex Mathie scores (NCJ Archive)

Alex Mathie vs Sheffield Wednesday (h) September 1993.

The Scot was an unknown when Kevin Keegan signed him from Morton but in an enthralling contest, which United won 4-2, Mathie came of the bench to scoop the ball over England keeper Chris Woods to help set up a terrific victory in one of the early Monday Night Football encounters on Sky Sports.

That night the atmosphere blew co-commentator Andy Gray's socks off with the ex-Everton star saying live on TV: "This atmosphere is like the sixth round of the FA Cup."

Les Ferdinand v Coventry City (h) August 1995

Tyneside was already at fever pitch with United 2-0 up against the Sky Blues in a season that Kevin Keegan felt he'd assembled a title winning side.

But the roof came off with seven minutes left as Les Ferdinand swerved round the goalkeeper and tapped into the net.

The new No 9 had arrived - and done so in style.

Not all debut goals are the start of something special at Newcastle, just ask this World Cup winner.

The striker had been part of the French squad that hoisted the trophy in Paris just weeks earlier but struggled at United.

He was signed by Kenny Dalglish before the Scot was sacked but he at least managed a strike on his debut against Liverpool.

The only problem was Michael Owen helped himself to a hat-trick in a 4-1 win for the visitors.

Duncan Ferguson v Wimbledon (h) November 1998

Newcastle were in need of a real lift in 1998 and Duncan Ferguson provided one.

The striker's sale from Everton broke hearts on Merseyside but he didn't take long to get into the swing of things at St James' Park with two goals on his debut.

Ferguson was a real fan favourite with Geordie punters but his time at the club was affected by injuries and a dream partnership with Alan Shearer was not a regular feature.

Xisco v Hull City (h) September 2008

The Spanish striker's arrival at Newcastle United effectively sparked Kevin Keegan's departure as manager.

Signed by Dennis Wise from Deportivo La Coruña for £5.7million, the striker's goalscoring start proved to be the highlight of an unhappy five-year stint that cost the club millions in wages.

To make it worse, his goal was only a consolation in a 2-1 loss to Hull City as fans fumed at Keegan's exit and turned on Mike Ashley for the first time.

Papiss Cisse v Aston Villa (h) February 2012

Four years had passed since a player had managed a Premier League debut goal.

But Cisse managed it after coming off the bench and scoring a wonderful half volley that flew into the top corner after Jonas Gutierrez's cross at the Gallowgate End.

It would be the first of 44 goals in four years at Newcastle which isn't a bad tally given the club dipped badly after finishing fifth in his first year.

Georginio Wijnaldum v Southampton (h) August 2015

The Dutchman often flattered to deceive at Newcastle but popped up with a goal on his debut against the Saints.

But the Magpies could not hold on to the 2-1 lead he handed him and spluttered to a 2-2 draw in Steve McClaren's first match at St James' Park.
