Matty Lees to miss Challenge Cup Final

St Helens Prop Forward Matty Lees will miss the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley on Saturday against the Warrington Wolves, though Justin Holbrook has confirmed the rest of his squad will be fit for selection.

The 21 year old has suffered a serious abdominal injury in the 36-20 win against the Leeds Rhinos last Thursday evening, and is ‘not good’ according to Holbrook.

Lees was withdrawn during the second half of the proceedings and it was initially thought that the injury was nothing serious. The injury will be a huge blow for the talented youngster, who has been a virtual ever present in the St Helens side this season, making 27 appearances in total.

The injury to Lees could present opportunity for another talented youngster in Jack Ashworth to make the 17, though Holbrook will also able to call upon the services of Alex Walmsley, James Roby, Lachlan Coote, Morgan Knowles and Joseph Paulo, all of whom will make a return after missing recent weeks due to injury.
