Matty Healy performs as own support act at 1975's Dublin gig as singer becomes unwell

Matt Healy, lead singer of the pop-rock outfit The 1975, opened as the support slot for the group under the name Matty for their Dublin show in St Anne’s Park.

The change came after alt-pop singer Caroline Polachek, who was set to support the group, pulled out of the show due to health issues.

The headline show took place in St Anne’s Park on Wednesday evening and was the latest in a string of dates for their At Their Very Best world tour.

In a statement on Twitter, The 1975 confirmed the change: “Our dear friend Caroline Polachek is unfortunately not in good enough health to join us at our Dublin show today.

“We wish her all the love in the world and a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing you all this evening.”

The statement was posted alongside a poster for the show, which said that “Matty” would be the support act for the new show.

In a follow-up, Polachek retweeted The 1975’s post alongside the caption: “Dublin, very sadly I’ve lost my voice and won’t be able to support The 1975 tonight as planned.

“I was so excited to finally play Dublin and will be coming back as soon as I can. On the upside, Matty himself will be doing a solo set in my place! Much love and fomo.”

Polachek, who previously performed under the name Ramona Lisa, played a headline slot at Primavera Sound Festival on Saturday playing hits such as Bunny Is A Rider and closing with Door from her third studio album Pang.

The American singer also joined Alex G on stage during the weekend for his Thursday evening show at the Barcelona festival which attracted many Irish revellers.
