Mattie Pollock tells Rangers they don’t fear them as Aberdeen star vows to go for the jugular

Mattie Pollock is adamant that in-form Aberdeen won’t have any fear of Rangers.

The Dons made it six wins on the bounce with victory at Ross County on Friday to strengthen their grip on third place. The Watford loanee knows Rangers are one of the biggest teams in Scotland but he reckons Aberdeen deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. Barry Robson’s side take on Michael Beale’s team when they head to Pittodrie on Sunday in their final fixture before the split.

Pollock said: “It is a massive game and you want to be part of these games, not just because it is a big game but we want to be competing with teams like that. This is a chance to show people what we are about and hopefully we can put a good performance on. We have to be aggressive and have a go. People talk about the big teams but we are a big team.

"Now we have to show that. What happens will happen. We don’t fear anyone in any game. Why would we? This is our job and you go into every game looking to win. Nerves and fear are not things to worry about. A painter doesn’t get nervous going to his work, so why should we? We’re ready and excited for it and the gaffer will have us ready for it.”

Aberdeen, under Jim Goodwin, ran Rangers close earlier in the season. They lost the League Cup semi-final in extra time and were leading at Pittodrie in the league and lost 3-2 in stoppage time.

The games were before Pollock arrived and he said: “The boys haven’t spoken to me about the last game. We lost two late goals but what has happened has happened. We will try to make sure that doesn’t happen this time.”
