Mattie McGrath blasts GAAGO and quips 'hawkeye broke down so ye know how bad the broadband is'

Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath blasted GAAGO and quipped 'hawkeye broke down so ye know how bad the broadband is'.

McGrath was a part of an Oireachtas Committee for the future of Sports Broadcasting on Wednesday afternoon when he made the quip.

The Tipperary man blasted GAAGO in the Oireachtas committee and cited buffering issues and took a dig at hawkeye in the process.

Hawkeye malfunctioned in the All-Ireland Football quarter-final clash between Armagh and Monaghan and McGrath teased the GAA, saying: "'hawkeye broke down so ye know how bad the broadband is."

Sky and the GAA ended their deal last year and GAAGO acquired further rights but has come under fire during the 2023 Championship season due to access and function issues.

Director General Tom Ryan has said GAAGO has had a total audience of 1.3 million across 42 games and top audiences have hit around 120,000 while smaller games have had audiences as low as 1,000 viewers.

Ryan also added the GAA will make about €4million from GAAGO.
