Mattie Kenny delighted as underrated Dublin finally get their reward against Galway

Mattie Kenny believes his underrated Dublin side are no flash in the pan - and that people had been sleeping on their performances in this year's Leinster SHC before their Galway win.

Goals from Eamonn Dillon, a Sean Moran penalty, and a late Chris Crummey winner made the world around them wake up as the Tribesmen - two summers removed from an All-Ireland title, just one removed from just missing out on a repeat performance against Limerick - were dumped out of the Championship before the summer solstice.

"I thought we played really, really well down in Kilkenny as well, I don’t think we got the credit we deserved for that 50 or 55 minutes hurling," Kenny told the Irish Mirror.

"We switched off for a few minutes and it cost us. We played really well against Wexford too, just allowed them two sucker goals. So this wasn’t a flash in the pan.

“These lads have shown really good form right through the Championship and if we were to go out now I’d have been really, really disappointed because I could see the potential in these lads.

“I could see how well they were hurling but it was a difficult ask for the guys.

“As you could see we were without a lot of players, six or seven top class players, and we had Eoghan O’Donnell going off early so we had to empty the bench.

“But it just shows there’s more depth in the Dublin squad than maybe people were giving them credit for.”
