Matthijs de Ligt 'wanted prohibited contract clause' - and it's harmed PSG transfer hopes

Matthijs de Ligt's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly in jeopardy - and it's all to do with the request of a release clause.

PSG were among the favourites to land the Holland international centre-back this summer, who is also strongly linked with Barcelona and Juventus.

But both Sky Sport Italia and RMC are reporting that the request of an €150million (£134m) exit clause could derail the deal.

PSG are understandably unprepared to part with big money to sign De Ligt if he can be purchased by another club for just £134m next season.

A PSG club source told RMC, per Sport Witness: "When you've just arrived, to already be wanting things to leave, it's not classy."

The French publication adds that Paris Saint-Germain are ready to refuse the defender's terms as a 'matter of ethics and respect'.

Such a clause is in fact prohibited in France, meaning PSG would have to attempt to get around the rules to make the transfer happen - something the Ligue 1 giants are unprepared to do.

Juventus, meanwhile, are reportedly happy to accept De Ligt's £134m buy-out clause demand, putting them in prime position to sign the Dutchman.

De Ligt is currently on holiday with his girlfriend Annekee Molenaar and has previously announced he will decide his next club when he returns.
